Laura Humphries was born January 3rd, 1989 in Queens, New York. When she was 2 years old she moved to Atlanta Georgia with her mother, father, and sister. As a child, Laura was extremely active, and curious about the world around her, which followed her into adulthood. As she grew into a young woman, Laura’s mother (Sharon Humphries) said she was easily motivated and eager to succeed in life. She received her high school diploma from Stephenson high school, and went on to pursue her bachelors degree at The University of West Georgia. She acquired her B.S. degree in Economics with a minor in Psychology. After college, Laura wanted to find a career where she would have purpose. She knew she wanted to work in a field that was exciting, and required traveling, yet rooted in self-discovery. She found this exact combination in 2015, when she began working for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant. Experiencing different cultures made Laura look at the work in a different light. Seeing the lack of opportunity for women of color throughout the world prompted her to do something completely unprecedented. Beginning in 2018 she embarked on a new journey to become a Black female pilot. Having always been adventurous, becoming a pilot was a perfect fit for Laura. Although Laura is thriving in her pursuit of piloting, her desire to evoke social change within her career is remarkable. Furthermore, she is committed to eradicating gender and racial biases in the field of flying.
